Anatomical Studies on the Renal Artery in Korean Infants

Abstract
This study was designed to investigate the renal arteries of Korean in various purposes. The number, arising level, caliber, dividing pattern of the primary and secondary branches, aberrant branches and the armory renal arteries were observed using infant cadavers of 32 male and 66 female.
The results obtained were as follows:
1. The number of the renal artery was calculated one in 83.2%, two in 14.3% and three in 2.6%.
2. The renal arteries were arosed mainly at the level of the first lumbar vertebral body and inter¡©vertebral disk, for instance in 82.7% in the right and in 87.8% in the left.
3. In 36.8% the renal arteries were dichotomized into each one anterior and posterior branches, these are the primary divisions of the artery. But in the cases of 39.9% the arteries trichotomized into two anterior and one posterior rami, among these cases the posterior ramus arosed from one of the anterior ones in 22.7
4. The regression coefficient of the renal arterial caliber was calculated in 0. 06 in the right, in 0. 07 in the left and that of the anterior branches in 0.04 in the right, in 0.05 in the left and that of the posterior branches in 0.03 in the right and 0.04 in the left.
5. The secondary divisions of the renal artery were typed in pattern of two main types, namely the so-colled stem and breakup types. Both types were found in the anterior branches in 41.0% and 58.9% whereas those in the posterior ones in 62.0% and 38.0% respectively.
6. In many cases (25. 0%) one aberrant branch arosed from the renal artery and penetrated very often (85.7%) the upper portion of the hilus.
7. One or two accessory renal arteries were found (16.9%) aed it penetrated mainly (44. 7%) the upper portion of the hilus.
